Discover more than 200 years of history of the Petit-Bonaventure (today Saint-Siméon-de-bonaventure). The current owners wanted to enhance the heritage of the place. In collaboration with the Musée acadien du Québec, they developed a heritage trail as well as published a historical journal and produced an exhibition held in 2021.
On the grounds of La Ruelle Hébergement, you will find a beautifully landscaped heritage trail in summer 2021. Open to the public every day from May 15 to October 15, the route is punctuated by eight interpretation panels in French and English. The panels bear witness to the architectural characteristics of the Arsenault-Gallagher house, but also to the families who inhabited it, and to their sociological and historical realities.
This visit will also allow you to appreciate the landscaping on the site and even stop for a meal or for a break in the dedicated spaces. A toilet and drinking water is available. Allow about 30 minutes of your time for this visit. Note that the ground is flat and accessible for people with reduced mobility taking into account that part of the course is on the grass.
In 2020, Marie-Josée Dugas, co-owner of La Ruelle, and Michel Goudreau, history researcher, conducted more than 100 hours of research on the Arsenault-Gallagher heritage house. Their work led to the creation of a historical review in collaboration with the Musée acadien du Québec. It is sold by La Ruelle accommodation in paper format and offered for consultation in tourist apartments. You can also download it in PDF format by clicking on the image of the journal above in this page.
Marie-Josée and Michel’s research was also used to create an exhibition on the Arsenault-Gallagher House, produced and presented by the Musée acadien du Québec in 2021. Aiming to make discover this property over time, this exhibition was the first of the series Maisons Mémoire, which earned the Musée acadien du Québec the 2021 Prix d’Excellence presented by the Museums of Québec.
A huge thank you to Michel Goudreau and the entire Musée acadien du Québec team for their invaluable contribution to this review, exhibition and heritage journey project!
