In 2010, La Ruelle Hébergement was founded when Marie-Josée Dugas and Serge Boulanger purchased the historic house Arsenault-Gallagher in Saint-Siméon-de-Bonaventure.
In 2017, the welcoming duo of entrepreneurs transformed a stable of their magnificent property into two tourist apartments. The couple added a loft to their century-old house the following year. The site’s natural beauty is enhanced by a magnificent landscaping that is close to the sea.
In 2021, the heritage house Arsenault-Gallagher where the loft is located, is now displayed at the Musée acadien du Québec. A heritage trail with interpretive panels on the history of the house and the community was constructed on the site that same year for the enjoyment of visitors.
Both in love with the Gaspe Peninsula, Marie-Josée was born here and Serge made it his home. Marie-Josée loves beauty, so she has embellished the place with landscaping and carefully decorated the place. Serge is a multidisciplinary artist who has given a second life to several objects and added an artistic touch to the site. Your stay will be enhanced by the good addresses provided by this pair. Sustainable tourism
Since the beginning, La Ruelle Hébergement project has adopted eco-responsible practices as much as possible. This means:
The development of the site was done in the respect of the local culture. Through our initiatives with the Musée acadien du Québec, we have enhanced the history of the site.
The restoration was accomplished by enhancing existing materials, including the stable doors that now serve as sliding bedroom doors, and recovering as much as possible instead of buying new.
Our supply favours responsible products such as fair trade coffee, biodegradable cleaning and hygiene products.
We encourage the use of good practices to minimize its environmental impact. This means encouraging our visitors to opt for re-usable water bottles to fill at the tap and collecting rainwater to feed our waterfalls and water our flowers. The site’s landscaping contributes to pollination and reduces our carbon footprint.
We are committed to our community by encouraging our visitors to experience local culture and support local businesses and artisans. We also act as agents of change by taking part in discussions on issues of concern to the community, such as the return of the passenger train, coastal erosion, the safeguarding of the church, etc.
To promote its services and support local and regional growth, La Ruelle Hébergement has become a member of Chambre de commerce et d’industrie Baie-des-Chaleurs, of Québec maritime and of Tourisme Gaspésie.
